How to Speed Up Downloads (up to 6 Times Faster)
Introduction: How to Speed Up Downloads (up to 6 Times Faster)
If you're using Google Chrome, you probably know that it doesn't download files that fast. You can speed up downloads with download acceleration software (like Internet Download Manager) which isn't always free and doesn't necessarily work. There is a much easier way that actually works... and it works AWESOME!
Step 1: Chrome Is Slow
First, an example. I've started downloading a 700 MB ISO file in GoogleChrome at 1:52 AM and finish at 2:12 AM (see screenshots). Simple math tells us that it took 20 minutes to download a 700 MB file. Quite a poor result for a browser we all love.
Step 2: Citrio Is 6 Times Faster
Then I've downloaded a chromium-based browser called Citrio. I've started downloading the same file at 2:17 AM and finished at 2:20 AM. It took only 3 minutes to download a 700 MB file.
It's more than 6 times faster than Google Chrome.
Step 3: What Was That!?
Citrio is basically a Chrome browser with pre-installed extensions. One of such extensions (that isn't available separately for Chrome) is a Download Accelerator. It's a part of a Download Manager so you don't have to do a thing, except for start the actual download and it will be automatically boosted. You can use your Google Account to sign in Citrio and all your Chrome extensions, bookmarks and passwords will be added to Citrio. In my experience, it can fully replace Chrome. Otherwise nothing prevents you from keeping a second browser exclusively for downloading large files.
Step 4: A Little Update (for Mh76dk)
Dear mh76dk, thank you for mentioning that files were downloaded from different servers. I didn't think about it at first. Yes, this might have played the part in the great download speed difference. So, I've decided to repeat the test.
It's almost the same time as yesterday (around 2 AM). This time I've decided to do the first download with Citrio, followed by Chrome. I've also added online clock to verify the data stamp. You can see results on the screenshots.
Citrio: 1:48 - 1:53 = 5 min
Chrome: 1:57 - 2:14 = 17 min
Yes, the results turned out to be different from the initial ones. However, Citrio still was more than 3 times faster than Chrome.
If you feel like it, please, send me the results of your tests, because they can be performed as many times as the one desires. Nevertheless, I'm sure that Chrome will lose this fight.

Its jampacked full malicious content! If you dont believe me just google it for yourself. Better yet, see EVERYTHING the Citrio Browser is hiding and why you DO NOT want it anywhere on your computer!

How to make games download faster?
Reload your games it does it for me my games download really fast!.😒
thank you it really works, i wanted to download a 294 MB file in opera but it said 3 hours left ._. but i dont get it because a 500 MB file downloaded a lot faster so i downloaded citrio and it says 3 minutes left.
You play Robles I do to
My download is through a game client. Specifically, WorldofWarships_PT. how can I speed this up?
Don't download Citrio. It's highly complicated and they didn't test anything. When I click on the YouTube tv on you tube's site to get the recommended videos I'm used to seeing in Chrome, Citrio had huge problems showing them. Everything does not download smoothly. I can't give this browser any stars- they have to go back to the drawing board.
Hail For Citrio its possible for me to download big files
this isn't a question but wow. this is amazing i loved it, thank you very much. I appreciate this tutorial very much, i download a lot of things for school and home, and it always takes forever!, but now that I have this, i love it so thank you!

Citrio does NOT download the full file it just downloads a small portion of said file.
I get a speed of 128 kb/s only. Can I use it download a file of 1.2 GB and can I pause downloads also so that I can continue it later.
Does it speed up pages?
Sounds like what Opera browser's Turbo does.
Unfortunately Opera is based on Chrome now, too. :(
Wait a minute! It does work for Windows!
but the problem, is that it sadly runs on mac, not Windows according to
your screenshot. :(
Good way, thanks for this easy way
XD. 500 kilobytes per second is bad, that's making me feel sorry for myself. I usually only get 250 kilobytes per second apart from the off occasion where I get 400 kilobytes.
Crappy NZ internet.
